Alberto Varela was born and raised in the Corona Norco area. He attended local schools and was graduated with an A.A. Degree from Chaffey College in Ontario. He earned a B.S. Degree in the Social Sciences from Cal Poly Pomona. In 1992, he retired as a Parole Agent II, following a career with the California Department of Corrections. He has been involved in local service and volunteer groups and activities for many years. Alberto took classes at the Otis Art School in Los Angeles, after his retirement. He enrolled in their Photography Certificate Program as well as in the Young At Heart Photography class at Riverside Community College. He has won several photography awards. Al likes to take photographs of all types. However he has concentrated on documenting Latino culture. Subjects include, ballet folkloric dancers, portraits, fiestas and Dia de Los Muertos.
