Exhibiting Artists Louie Moreno with "Big X" | Louie Moreno, exhibiting paintings: Louie Moreno was born in Los Angeles, California. He married in 1972, has two sons and has lived in the Oxnard Plains since 1946. As a descendent of the Delaware tribe, he has been fascinated with Native American drawings since childhood. A self-taught artist, he was influenced by his elementary school teacher, Frank Van Schaick. His teacher took his classmates and him to many different Chumash places throughout the Santa Barbara County, where he recorded his trips by drawing sketches of the places and people. Since then, he has drawn many different portraits of Native Americas.Louie has been involved with the Chicano Power Movement since the 1960s with the Oxnard's branch of the Brown Berets and now as political artist for the Committee on Raza Rights (CRR). His political artwork has been used for the Raza Youth Liberation Conference (1996), Chicano Moratorium Marcha (2000), Conference on Raza Prisoners and Colonialism (2001), and Conference on Raza Press, Media and Popular Expression (2002). This year, he was honored with the Raza Certificate of Recognition by the Chicano Mexicano Prison Project for his political artwork.Louie's artwork has been exhibited at the Ventura County Fair (1994-2001), the Channel Island National Park Visitor Center (2000), the Dr. Rodolfo Acuña Gallery and Cultural Center (2001-2003), the De Colores Art Show (2003) and Oxnard Public Library (2003). This year, his artwork was used for the cover of Occupied America, 5th Edition by Rodolfo Acuña. He currently has three paintings (Faces of the Revolution) on exhibit with other artists at the Dr. Rodolfo Acuña Gallery and Cultural Center.Louie dedicates all his artwork to his mother, Pearl E. Garcia; his wife, Gloria; his sons Luis III and José; his teacher Frank Van Schaick; and especially to the Chumash people.
